Safety

Active Brake Assist

Active Brake Assist

Radar-based technology can alert you if you're approaching a vehicle ahead, or even some stationary objects, at a speed and distance that suggest a collision is likely. As soon as you start to brake, it can automatically provide an appropriate level of braking to help prevent a collision or reduce its severity. If you fail to respond, it can also initiate braking automatically at a range of driving speeds. The system can also detect and help react to crossing pedestrians at typical city speeds.*

ATTENTION ASSIST

ATTENTION ASSIST

The first system of its kind, ATTENTION ASSIST® continuously monitors up to 70 parameters of driving behavior, and can automatically alert the driver with both visual and audible warnings if it detects signs of drowsiness on long trips. With enhanced sensitivity, the system can also help detect drivers who begin their trip drowsy, and offer more useful information to drivers along their journey via a dashboard display.*

Mercedes-Benz Emergency Call

Mercedes-Benz Emergency Call

If an air bag or seat-belt Emergency Tensioning Device deploys, your car can automatically initiate a call to Mercedes-Benz Emergency Services, transmitting your GPS-determined location and helpful vehicle information on your behalf. Trained experts are on call 24/7 to help summon local emergency responders to your location. You can also press the SOS button in the vehicle anytime you need emergency assistance, or see someone else who does. This reassuring service is provided as standard equipment in the vehicle, no matter who's driving.*

Active Distance Assist DISTRONIC

Active Distance Assist DISTRONIC

A Mercedes-Benz innovation, Active Distance Assist DISTRONIC® cruise control uses radar-based technology to adapt your set speed in response to the flow of traffic ahead. If traffic slows down, it can reduce your speed automatically until your path clears. If the vehicle ahead slows to a stop, it can brake to a full halt. When traffic moves, you can resume with just a tap of the accelerator or cruise control button, or it can resume automatically if the stop is under 30 seconds.*

Active Steering Assist

Active Steering Assist

Active Steering Assist can be engaged whenever you're using DISTRONIC adaptive cruise control. Using cameras and other sensors to detect lane markings, guardrails and other vehicles, Active Steering Assist can help the driver keep the vehicle centered in its lane while cruising, even in gentle curves. When lane markings aren't visible, it can even follow the vehicle ahead.*

Traffic Sign Assist

Traffic Sign Assist

Traffic Sign Assist can detect posted speed-limit signs and, along with information in the navigation system's map database, display the limit on the dash. It can also alert you when you exceed the limit.*

Blind Spot Assist with Exit Warning Assist

Blind Spot Assist with Exit Warning Assist

When traveling above approximately 20 mph, radar technology can help sense when a vehicle enters the blind-spot area. Blind Spot Assist can then alert the driver via an illuminated red icon in the appropriate side mirror. An audible warning sounds if the driver activates a turn signal while a vehicle is detected in the blind spot. After parking, Exit Warning Assist can alert the driver or passengers to vehicles, cyclists or pedestrians that could be at risk if the door is opened.*

Active Lane Keeping Assist

Active Lane Keeping Assist

With technology to monitor ordinary road markings at most driving speeds, Active Lane Keeping Assist can help detect unintended drifting off-course, and alert you by vibrating the steering wheel. If you continue to drift, it can selectively brake individual wheels to help guide the car back into its lane.*

PARKTRONIC with Active Parking Assist

PARKTRONIC with Active Parking Assist

Active Parking Assist can search for parallel or perpendicular parking spaces to either side as you drive by. Choose a space to pull or back into, and it can expertly steer and brake for you. When it's time to leave, it can also steer you back out. In any low-speed maneuver, PARKTRONIC sensors in the front and rear bumpers can help detect nearby objects within their field of view. Audible signals and illuminated displays in the cabin can help you navigate tight spaces with confidence.*

Rear Cross-Traffic Alert

Rear Cross-Traffic Alert

Using the ultrasonic sensors of Active Parking Assist and the radar sensors of Blind Spot Assist, this system can help audibly and visually alert the driver to approaching cross-traffic when backing out of a parking space at low speed. Especially helpful if your view is obstructed by vehicles or structures, the system can also apply the brakes. The sensors can also help detect if the driver has engaged the wrong gear or pedal for exiting a confined space.*

Surround View System

Surround View System

The advanced Surround View System uses cameras in all four directions to compose a single, live overhead view of your immediate surroundings. Displayed on the in-dash screen during low-speed maneuvers, it can help you avoid obstacles as you negotiate tight spaces, whether you're moving forward or backing up.*

Electronic Stability Program (ESP)

Electronic Stability Program (ESP)

This safety breakthrough first introduced by Mercedes-Benz continually monitors your driving inputs and the vehicle's motion to help keep it going in your intended direction, especially in corners and during evasive maneuvers. If it detects wheelspin, severe understeer (plowing), or oversteer (fishtailing), ESP® can brake individual wheels and reduce power to help bring the vehicle under control.*

Trailer Stability Assist

Trailer Stability Assist

With a generous 7,000-lb towing capacity with the standard hitch, the G-Class can pull a trailer with confidence. Whenever you're towing, standard Trailer Stability Assist can act decisively to help rein in trailer sway by strategically applying the front brakes of the G-Class, to help you keep your worries behind you.*

10 air bags

10 air bags

An advanced system of 10 air bags can offer 12-way occupant protection. Dual two-stage front air bags, front and rear side-impact air bags, dual front knee air bags, and side curtain air bags for both seating rows are standard.*

LED Daytime Running Lamps

LED Daytime Running Lamps

Bright white LED Daytime Running Lamps can help increase the visibility of your vehicle to oncoming traffic by illuminating front lights whenever the car is switched on. With long life and low energy consumption, the light-emitting diode (LED) lamps ring the iconic round G-Class headlamps, advancing a tradition with a high-tech approach.

MULTIBEAM LED headlamps

MULTIBEAM LED headlamps

Pioneered by Mercedes-Benz, active LED headlamps can generate light that's perceived much like natural daylight. Active Curve Illumination and Adaptive Highbeam Assist continuously vary the beam pattern of the LEDs in each headlamp to help maximize the illumination of corners and straightaways, without creating glare for other drivers.*

Adaptive Highbeam Assist

Adaptive Highbeam Assist

Adaptive Highbeam Assist can automatically activate the high beams when camera technology detects there are no vehicles within range ahead of you.*

Active Emergency Stop Assist

Active Emergency Stop Assist

While Active Distance Assist DISTRONIC® provides an extraordinary degree of driving ease when cruising, the driver must still remain able to intervene at any time. For this reason, if innovative capacitive touch technology detects the driver's hands off the steering wheel for a prolonged period, it can provide both visual and audible alerts. If the driver does not respond, Active Emergency Stop Assist can reduce the vehicle speed in stages, all the way to a stop, unless the driver resumes control of the vehicle.*

PRE-SAFE

PRE-SAFE

A Mercedes-Benz first, PRE-SAFE® can detect instability during certain vehicle maneuvers that suggest a collision or rollover is imminent. It can then tighten the front seat belts, adjust the front passenger seat, and begin to close the windows and sunroof, all in an effort to better prepare the occupants and restraints in the moments before a collision. If no accident occurs, the seat-belt tensioners reverse, and you can simply readjust your seat, open the sunroof and continue on your way.*

PRE-SAFE Sound

PRE-SAFE Sound

An important enhancement to the industry-first PRE-SAFE® system can help reduce the effects of a collision on occupants' hearing. When the sensors of PRE-SAFE detect an impending impact, it can emit a special "pink noise" tone via the audio system just before the collision. The tone's frequency is tuned to pre-trigger a natural reflex within the human ear canal that helps shut out loud noises in advance of the actual impact.*

Seat belt technology

Seat belt technology

Provided at all five seats, 3-point seat belts are arguably our most important passive safety feature. If a collision exceeds a preset threshold, Emergency Tensioning Devices (ETDs) can instantly remove slack from the front and rear outboard seat belts. Belt force limiters can allow a slight amount of give in the ETD-equipped seat belts, to reduce the peak seat-belt forces on the occupant.

Adaptive braking technology

Adaptive braking technology

Adaptive braking technology integrates a suite of advances. If you lift off the accelerator quickly, Predictive Brake Priming can set the pads closer to the discs for more immediate response when you apply the brakes. In the rain, Automatic Brake Drying can periodically apply the brakes just enough to sweep water build-up from the discs. During uphill starts, Hill-Start Assist can help prevent unwanted rollback. And a HOLD feature can make long red lights or stopped traffic a little easier.*

Brake Assist (BAS)

Brake Assist (BAS)

Brake Assist (BAS®) can sense emergency braking via the speed at which the driver presses the brake pedal, and immediately applies maximum available power boost. By eliminating the delay caused by a common human tendency not to brake hard enough, soon enough, Brake Assist can potentially reduce the overall stopping distance. Letting up on the brake pedal releases BAS.*

Antilock Braking System (ABS)

Antilock Braking System (ABS)

The Antilock Braking System (ABS) can sense impending wheel lockup under heavy braking, and pump the front brakes individually or the rear brakes together up to 30 times per second. By preventing wheel lockup, ABS helps preserve the driver's steering ability during hard braking.*

Tire Pressure Monitoring System

Tire Pressure Monitoring System

The Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) can automatically detect a substantial loss of tire pressure in any wheel and alert the driver via a warning message in the multifunction display. The advanced TPMS can also display the numeric tire pressure for each mounted wheel.*

Rain-sensing windshield wipers

Rain-sensing windshield wipers

Rain-sensing windshield wipers can automatically adjust the intermittent front wiper frequency based on the amount of rainfall.

Rear-window wiper with auto-on in Reverse

Rear-window wiper with auto-on in Reverse

Whenever the front wipers are on and you shift to Reverse, the rear-window wiper can automatically sweep to help clear your view out the back. The wiper can also be switched on to its intermittent setting at any time by the driver, and includes a washer.

Night Security Illumination

Night Security Illumination

The exterior lights can be programmed to turn on for a preset interval when you remote-lock your vehicle in darkness, to help light a path for you as you leave.

Antitheft alarm system

Antitheft alarm system with remote panic feature

The standard antitheft alarm system is armed automatically when you lock your Mercedes from the outside. It can sound the horn and flash the exterior lights if a door or the hood is opened without first unlocking the vehicle. You can also sound the alarm by pressing the red "panic" button on your SmartKey remote when you're within range of your vehicle.*

GUARD 360° security system

GUARD 360° security system

GUARD 360® offers enhanced vehicle security beyond the standard antitheft alarm. It can help detect if your parked vehicle experiences certain impact types likely to cause damage. It can push a damage notification to your phone via the Mercedes-Benz app, and display a message next time you start the car.*
