Tire Guide - 6 Tire Care Tips You Should Know

Tires are a crucial part of a vehicle. You probably know that you need to take care of them, but do you know how? Here you will get some quick tips on tire care so that your tires last longer and don’t wear out as quickly.

1) Clean Your Tire Tread

Keeping your tires clean is important for both their appearance and their function. When dirt and debris accumulate on the tire tread, it can affect braking and handling. Dirt can build up between the grooves in your tires over time if they aren’t cleaned periodically. Using water mixed with dish soap is an effective way to clean off this dirt without damaging your tires’ rubber or tread pattern.

2) Check the Tire’s Wear Pattern

It’s important to analyze the wear pattern of your tires, as it can indicate problems with the vehicle or the way you’re driving. If you see that one side of the tire is wearing down more quickly than the other, it could be a sign that your alignment is off. You should take your car in for a check-up as soon as possible if you notice this.

3) Get the Tires Rotated Regularly

Tires should be rotated every few months or every few thousand miles to even out the wear. If you don’t rotate them, they’ll start to wear down unevenly, and you’ll end up having to replace them more often. Most dealership service centers will do this for free when you bring your car in for other services.

4) Know When it’s Time to Get New Tires

Even if you rotate your tires and take care of them, they’ll eventually need to be replaced. You can tell it’s time for new tires when the tread starts to wear down too much or when the tire pressure drops significantly. If you care about your safety (and you should), it’s best to buy new tires before either of those things happen.

5) Check Air Pressure

Always keep an eye on your tire pressure. If the pressure is too low, it can cause the tires to wear down more quickly and increase your risk of getting into an accident. You can find the recommended tire pressure for your car in the owner’s manual.

6) Tires Have a Shelf Life

Just like any other product, tires have a shelf life. The general rule of thumb is that you should replace your tires every six years, but this can vary depending on the make and model of your vehicle and how often you drive. You may need to replace them as soon as possible if you drive in harsh conditions or frequently tow or haul heavy loads.

If you don’t know the age of your tires, or if it’s been more than six years since you replaced them, take a look at the sidewall of your tires. The tire identification number (TIN) is a series of numbers and letters identifying your specific tires. The last four digits indicate the week and year the tire was produced.
